Circuit board design in Kent

Custom Electronics Design & Testing

Many of our clients benefit from our custom electronics design services, particularly bespoke test jig design. This involves us creating hardware testing systems that verify each and every function of your product. Our systems often integrate with custom PC software for automated control, test logging, and even immediate result printing (one system includes a label printer for individual product reports).

During the electronics design process, we can help clients untangle complex or temporary wiring setups. Using our in-house PCB design and manufacturing capabilities, we can turn your wire “nest” into clean, efficient interconnection boards, designed for scalability and reliability.

All our work is carried out in our fully RoHS-compliant Kent-based facilities, where we offer Surface Mount (SMT), Through-Hole assembly, and complete electronic product builds.

Stages of electronics design:

Follow the journey of a PCB board, from concept to completion; right here in our Kent based shop.

bare PCBs
Order & procurement
Once an order is placed, we source all required components and bare PCBs.
Solder paste application
Lead-free solder paste is applied using a laser-cut mask, similar to screen printing.
Surface mount assembly
Components are placed using Neodem K1830...
Surface Mount
... and a TWS Quadra DVC.
SMT
Manual SMT placement
Non-standard or non-reeled parts are manually positioned using a Fritsch SMD vacuum pick-and-place machine.
Inspecting PCB
Inspection & adjustment
Boards are double checked with an Icon HD inspection camera to correct alignment issues before soldering.
PCB Oven
Reflow soldering
Boards go through a TWS850 reflow oven, following a controlled heat cycle to solder surface mount components.
Through Hole
Through-hole assembly
Connectors and other through-hole components are manually soldered using assembly jigs.
final checks
Final inspection & testing
A last quality check ensures boards meet standards before moving to testing.

3D printed PCB design in Kent

At Winter & Smith, we push innovation beyond the screen by 3D printing your circuit boards before full production. This hands-on preview lets you see, hold, and test the design, checking size, layout, and connector access in real-world conditions.

It’s more than just a prototype, it’s peace of mind. You’ll know everything fits and functions as it should before a single component is assembled. It’s just one of the ways we go further to give you total confidence in your design, right from the start.
