At Winter and Smith, we’re all about investing in the future, whether it be in equipment, research, or people. We’ve seen the current shortage of engineers, and we want to help with part-time electrical jobs for students.
Whilst we can’t offer apprenticeships, we can teach you our key skills.
For the past 5 years, in partnerships with two local Colleges (Midkent College and North West Kent College), Winter and Smith have provided part time employment to College students studying electronics, software and manufacturing at T-Level and BTEC Level 3. Most courses these days require work experience – but we felt we could go one better than this, and offer these students a real part time job for the 2(ish) week days they are not at college.
This has been a massive success, and we now have five students who have gone on to University, with our current two students moving onto apprenticeships in September.
We encourage all our students to create a portfolio of the work they have done at Winter and Smith, including photographs demonstrating their skills.
The candidates are keen to learn new skills – and we are happy to offer them the opportunity to learn to design printed circuit boards, learn embedded software and also 3d cad to build up their skills.
We are currently looking to recruit two engineering students for part-time roles assembling/testing printed circuit boards and systems. We have previously offered this as a paid engineering work placement for students studying engineering courses, to fulfil engineering course requirements. We currently have six ex-students at University and two about to start apprenticeships – all of whom felt that this experience was invaluable in helping them meet the entry requirements.
The role will include work such as:
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
Appropriate training will be provided for the above.
